Every vote counts...and counts...
and counts

It didn't take long to get into the new century to find a defining moment. One of the lasting impressions I will have of this presidential election is that of a portly middle aged man holding a ballot up to the light and squinting – apparently trying to "divine" the intent of the voter. He didn't seem to be having much luck, because he kept turning it from side to side trying to find the right angle so the voters "will" would come shining through. If this nonsense wasn't involved in the process to elect the next President of the United States, it would be quite comical. The jokes comparing the Florida follies to the Johnny Carson character Karnic the Magnificent would have more appeal to me.

As it is, I find it almost chilling to think the next leader of the free world, could have been named as a result of this "count". Almost worst is the fact that the Democratic leadership adopted the "every vote must be counted" slogan when they know full well that the ballots have been counted at least twice, and sometimes three and four times. Lets not to forget the afore mentioned attempt to "divine the will " of the voters in several county's.

Bringing things closer to home, you may have noticed our mayor (and Gore's campaign chairman's brother) has been quite moderate in tone about the matter. Could it be that the Honorable Richard is loath to bring up the subject that 120,000 votes in the County of Cook were not "counted" either. I wonder what teams of corespondents from the Washington Post and The New York Times would write as they observed a open look at these "uncounted votes" and our "democratic elections" in Chicago. Our history is ripe with ideas that would surly be a benefit to anyone trying to "divine the will" of voters, even it they could not make it to the polls, or indeed if they are dead of alive. Shouldn't everyone be counted in a democracy?

Yes, lets take a good look at all the ballots including Chicago's, where every vote is counted... and counted ...and counted.
