Cell Phone Controversy Chicago ABATES legislative director and candidate for 44th Ward GOP Committeeman Laszlo Nagy got into a bit of a row with a local delicatessen owner over the use of his cell phone. Seems the owner of Perry's deli in the heart of Chicago's financial district does not want patrons to use the increasingly popular devices in his busy establishment. During a recent lunch break Nagy stopped in Perry's Deli for several quick sandwiches for several co-workers and himself. His cell phone was on buzz mode when he received a call from an influential Chicago Alderman, who is also a client of his stockbrokerage business. After recognizing that this was an important call, Nagy decided to take it in spite of the no cell phone policy of Perry's. Not long into the call the Deli's owner began barking that cell phones were off limits in here, and that if he was so important he could go eat in a fancy restaurant. Nagy replied that he was a stockbroker and his business often demands quick action. He stated that he has been a loyal customer for years, the deli was very convenient for him, and felt Perry was being unreasonable. That this is after all an area populated with professionals like him, who are finding cell phones indispensable items. After the exchange between Nagy and the owner, a number of patrons in line joined Nagy and proceeded to make calls on their wireless phones - a form of upper crust rebellion rarely seen in such quarters. Apparently not willing to see 50% of his lunchtime trade walk out the door the owner diplomatically ignored the protest and served the talkers their sandwiches. Springtime for Patrick? Cheap shot by John McCain, or legitimate issue. Presidential candidate McCain statement about writings by Pat Buchanan concerning Hitler's intentions in World War II received national coverage this past week. McCain quotes writings by Buchanan claiming that Adolph Hitler never intended to go to war with the west- Britain, France and the United States. This is an issue that is subject to debate by historians. There is evidence in the writings of Albert Speer (Hitler's Minister of Armaments and War Production) that Hitler had no such intentions to expand the Reich westward. Speer states that long range plans after the conquest of the Soviet Union, were to start a campaign to invade India. An attempt to portray Buchanan as a Nazi apologist is going too far. An isolationist yes, a Nazi no. Buchanan is demanding an apology from McCain. This is one time we would agree with him.
