| Ed Koch Speaks
Former New York City mayor Ed Koch on Tim Russet's CNBC show says:
He likes Al Gore, but he knows he can't win.
Feels that Rick Lazio would be the GOP's strongest candidate against Hillary.
Running for governor was the dumbest thing he ever did.
The reason Mario Como lost the governorship of NY was because of Rudy Giuliani's
endorsement.
More on Hillary
Al Sharpton is being quoted as saying that if the first lady wants his endorsement
she must ask for it. Sharpton's organization can account for as much as thirty percent
of the New York City vote.
The rub is Hillary would risk offending the large Jewish vote,
because of Rev. Sharpton's close relationship with the Nation of Islam's
Louis Farrakhan.
A catch 22 in the making.
All quiet on the Freaknic front
Richard Barnes did a 180-degree spin this past week and announced there would be
no Freaknic picnic at Schiller Woods this year. Barnes discouraged anyone from coming to the woods, in hope of finding a permit-less party in progress.
As of Sunday night no problems at the woods have been reported.
Socialism comes to Humboldt Park
In a land grab that would have done the Bolsheviks proud, the City of Chicago,
using its eminent-domain powers will seize
up to 159 properties in an effort to block gentrification
of the mostly Puerto Rican neighborhood.
According to a report by the Chicago Tribune the city will seize and develop
the properties for low-income housing. Many of the properties are already slated
for development by a private contractor. This free market action apparently has Deputy Planning Commissioner David Doig,
in the Daley administration up in arms.
He feels this Leninist style response, to private enterprise in Humboldt Park is perfectly in order.
Some in the legal community are outraged at the proposal.
In the Tribune article a legal expert speaks:
""I don't regard this as legitimate use of eminent domain because it
is taking from one group to give to another," said University of Chicago Law Professor Richard Epstein. "Could you imagine someone saying we are going to take this land to preserve it for white people?
The history of trying to rig neighborhoods to put in a city master plan always misfires."
Once again big government social engineering is at work.
